Milwaukee Bucks’ Brandon Jennings is proving the critics wrong

Blogged under Big Bucks News,Bloglockers,Rookie Reports,Steppin' Up by Andrew on Tuesday 24 November 2009 at 8:17 pm

A lot of hype has surrounded Brandon Jennings ever since the point guard decided not to go to college last year and instead, played professionally in Italy.  There were a lot of Jennings critics when he made this move, most notably college analysts like Dick Vitale.  As much as I love the college game, is the 1-year rule really in the best interests of the players?  I say no, as these talented players are not getting an “education” and are still treated like superstars on campus for one year before they jump to the pros.  His leadership has been questioned and he has gotten into some trouble for his “tweets” on Twitter, but this kid can play!  It looks like a year of professional basketball in Europe (which seemed to hurt his draft stock) better prepared Jennings for the NBA than any of the one-and-done players from college.  Jennings has been the best rookie by far this season, averaging 24.2 points, 5.7 assists, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.0 steal while shooting 46% from the field and 48% from behind the arc.  Jennings is the reason the Bucks are 8-4 and he made headlines on November 14th when he dropped an astounding 55 points on the Golden State Warriors, a Bucks rookie record and the third highest for a rookie in NBA history.

Milwaukee Bucks 98, San Antonio Spurs 112

Blogged under Big Bucks News,Bloglockers,Game Recaps,General by Andrew on Tuesday 24 November 2009 at 3:44 am

The Milwaukee Bucks (8-4) were looking for their 4th straight win Monday night, but they fell short against the San Antonio Spurs.  They did not have an answer for Tim Duncan, who had 24 points, 12 rebounds, and 2 assists.  It is acceptable for Duncan to have a big night, but it should not be acceptable for the Bucks to let Matt Bonner light them up.  Bonner came off the bench and had 23 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 assists.  If the Bucks would have contained Bonner, they probably would have won this game.  They were also outrebounded 46-29, so they were not hitting the glass hard enough.  Ersan Ilyasova had a very good game for the Bucks and led them in scoring with 20 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 steals.  Hakim Warrick was great off the bench and scored 15 points in only 19 minutes.  The Bucks need to do a better job rebounding the ball, or they will find themselves on the losing end too often.

Milwaukee Bucks 103, Memphis Grizzlies 98

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Game Recaps,General by alleyoop on Sunday 22 November 2009 at 8:52 am

The Bucks just played better than the Grizzlies last night, plain and simple. Brandon Jennings led the way for the Bucks again last night with 26 points, 2 rebounds and 2 assists. Charlie Bell played 40 minutes last night in which he scored 19 points and dished out 2 assists. Ersan Ilyasova pitched in with 18 points, 12 rebounds and 3 assists. The Bucks are now 8-3 on the year.

Milwaukee Bucks 95, Charlotte Bobcats 88

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Game Recaps,General by alleyoop on Saturday 21 November 2009 at 5:25 pm

The Bucks got another nice win last night in Milwaukee over the offensively challenged Charlotte Bobcats. Brandon Jennings led the way for the Bucks once again last night with 29 points, 4 rebounds and 7 assists. Harkim Warrick also had a solid night for the Bucks with 16 points, 9 rebounds and 2 assists. Ersan Ilyasova also had a good game with 13 points and 7 rebounds in 24 minutes. The Bucks are now 7-3 on the season.

The Milwaukee Bucks lose Andrew Bogut for a while

Blogged under Big Bucks News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Injuries by alleyoop on Friday 20 November 2009 at 4:28 pm

The Bucks will be without starting center Andrew Bogut for the next 2-4 weeks due to a strained left leg and a contusion. He has played in 9 games (all starts) for the Bucks so far this season and he has averaged 33.6 minutes, 16.1 points, 9.2 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.4 blocked shots per game. The Bucks will miss Bogut big time as he is the second best offensive player on the team right now with Michael Redd also hurting. Dan Gazduric will replace Bogut in the starting lineup. Gazduric has played in 9 games (0 starts) this season for the Bucks and he is averaging 9.8 minutes, 2.8 points, 2.9 rebounds and 0.3 assists per game. Kurt Thomas will also see a bump in playing time behind Gazduric. Thomas has played in 5 games (2 starts) so far this year for the Bucks and he is averaging 6.8 minutes, 1.6 points, 1.8 rebounds and 0.2 assists per game this season. The Bucks had better hope that Bogut gets healthy soon or they are going to start losing a lot of basketball games.
