The Bucks select point guard Ramon Sessions in the 2nd round

Blogged under The Draft Report, Bloglockers, Big Bucks News, Front Page by alleyoop on Friday 29 June 2007 at 9:50 am

With all of the Bucks’ point guards from last season being free agents the Bucks decided to select Ramon Sessions in the 2nd round with the #56 pick overall in the NBA Draft. The 6′3″, 190 point guard from Nevada is a fallback option as he projects as a backup in the pros. He played in 97 games at Nevada and he averaged 8.8 points, 4.2 rebounds, 4.9 assists and 1.2 steals per game. He also isn’t a great shooter as he’s hit 41.7% from the floor, 31.3% from three point range and 74% from the free throw line.

Ramon Sessions is a great pick for the Bucks. I grew up at bucks games from 1973-1993 and currently live out here in the Reno/Tahoe area. I have been a season ticket holder for the past 9 years for the Nevada Wolfpack and can reassure you bucks fans that this kid is the real deal. He has the assist ability of Steve Nash and runs the floor like a general. He can also drive to the hoop and finishes strong. He has ice in his veins and welcomes the ball in closing minutes of close games. He has been getting knocked for low scoring average but this team at Nevada has had prolific scorers in Nick Fazekas and Marcelas Kemp for the past 3 years. I truly think he would have scored more per game if the wolfpack didn’t have so many incredible scorers. I’m excited for Ramon and can’t wait to watch him in the green and purple.

With the Bucks re-signing Maurice Williams it’s unlikely that Sessions will get much playing time. Still, I saw him play against Akron this season in person and I came away really impressed with him as a player.
