The Bucks need Charlie Villanueva to play better

Blogged under Bloglockers, Need to step up, Front Page by Nothing but Net on Tuesday 13 February 2007 at 8:03 pm

The Bucks penciled Villanueva into their starting lineup after they acquired him from the Raptors for T.J. Ford, but he hasn’t produced the way they thought he would. Villanueva has played in 29 games and he has averaged 26.0 minutes, 12.2 points and 6.3 rebounds per game this season. In his defense, he did miss a lot of games due to injury but that doesn’t excuse him looking lazy on the court. He has shot well this season as he’s hit 47.7% from the floor and 81.4% from the free throw line. The Bucks need Villanueva to step up in the paint and help out Andrew Bogut on the glass or it’s going to be a very long season for the Bucks.

The Bucks got outrebounded 44-35 by the Nuggets and that hurt them last night. Earl Boykins played an inspired game against his old team as he scored 26 points, grabbed 2 rebounds, dished out 6 assists and hit 6 of 7 shots from three point range. Maurice Williams had a poor shooting game as he hit only 6 of 20 shots from the floor but he still wound up with 16 points, 3 rebounds and 6 assists.

Maurice Williams has exceeded expectations for the Bucks this season

Many thought that trading T.J. Ford to the Toronto Raptors was a risk because Maurice Williams has never really been the starter for a full season for the Bucks. But, he has been one of the best and most consistent players on the Bucks roster this season. Williams is averaging 18.1 points, 5.1 rebounds, 6.2 assists and 1.2 steals per game. He also has shot very well for a guard this season as he’s hitting 45.2% of his shots from the floor, 33.1% from three-point range and 83.9% from the free throw line. He’s even stepping up his scoring more as of late with Michael Redd out and that’s really helped the Bucks out.
